KDPaine & Partner's KBI Development System
The most difficult and important part of any measurement program is getting started correctly. Every year, thousands of hours of research effort are wasted when measurement programs provide unusable data or results that aren't acceptable to everyone involved. Now KDPaine & Partners KBI Development System solves that problem by helping companies decide what to measure and how to measure it. The service combines analytical research methodology with consensus-building best practices to get your measurement program over its most difficult hurdles, and off to a smooth start that will deliver usable results
What is it?
KDPaine’s KBI Development System provides organizations large and small with a proven systematic methodology to reach consensus on the key performance indicators (KPIs) for their social media and traditional marketing programs. KBI stands for Kick Butt Index, since there’s never been a marketer who hasn’t heard the words “we’re really getting our butt kicked” and longed for his/her boss to say “Congratulations, we really kicked butt this time.” It enables organizations to actually define exactly what they mean by “kicking butt.”
In an era when social media offers far too many alternatives, marketing decisions are made without agreed upon definitions of success and failure. When there is no definition, success can mean anything from accumulating more Facebook friends than the competition, or getting better press to increasing web traffic or lead generation. Once you achieve consensus, measurement becomes a continuous quality improvement tool, rather than just a ruler to beat people up, or a justification to spend more money.
What does it do?
This product solves the most difficult measurement problem for any company: Deciding what to measure and how to measure it. Here’s what it does:
· Builds consensus as to how success is defined among disparate groups, lines of business and department
· Helps eliminate internal conflicts between departments, territories and their respective goals.
· Makes better use of data you already have
· Leverages existing research
· Saves thousands of wasted measurement dollars, and time.
· Reduces resistance to measurement by making sure that everyone is on the same page before measurement begins
What does it deliver?
All KBI projects will deliver:
1. An agreed upon definition(s) of success
2. Agreement on goals and methods for measuring success
3. A list of the top 3-5 organizational and/or departmental goals
4. Definition of the 3-5 metrics by which success will be defined
5. A measurement framework with which to begin
6. A sample dashboard based on those metrics and goals.
Optional additional services include:
1. Creation of an RFP for the required measurement tools and vendors
2. Supervision of the RFP process
3. Designing and implementing the required dashboards.
How does it work?
KDPaine’s KBI development process begins with an in-depth tutorial on measurement tools, strategy and techniques by internationally recognized measurement expert Katie Delahaye Paine. That workshop is followed by a simple 7-minute survey of everyone involved in making social media and/or marketing decisions. Questions are both open ended and multiple choice and respondents are encouraged to create their own definitions of success. Respondents can and should include strategic and corporate communications, community managers, social media managers, public and community relations as well as product management, HR and even operations and sales. Once your company’s data is collected, it is analyzed, coded, weighted then statistically measured against KDPaine’s historical database of marketing performance measurement of 100’s of companies. KDPaine then provides a list of the personalized 3-5 goals and 3-5 metrics, accompanied by company-specific recommendations for measurement methodologies and tool selections. KDPaine’s proprietary linking of proven research methodology, historical data and your specific data provides relevant results which will enable you to build a successful measurement program that delivers positive business results.
Who should use it?
· Any organization that has a communications or marketing group that needs to be accountable for its actions and budgets.
· Non-profits who need to be accountable to funders and its board
· Government agencies that need to be accountable to constituents
· Educational institutions that need to demonstrate accountability to trustees, government regulators, funders and families.
How much does it cost?
Prices for KDPaine’s KBI process start at $7500. Pricing depends on the number of people that need to be surveyed, the complexity of the organization and the extent of travel and time required.
